Safe Urban Street Design for Vulnerable Road User Safety

Vulnerable road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and public transport users, account for over 70% of road fatalities in some countries and around 30% in Qatar, a pattern driven by high traffic speeds, insufficient separation from vehicles, poorly designed crossings, and streets planned around vehicle movement rather than all who use them. To address this, 4E Road Safety and Transport Consultants, together with the IRF International Road Federation, has delivered specialist training on safe urban street design for vulnerable road users in Doha, Qatar, in December 2018 and May 2024, returning for a third edition on 3rd to 5th November 2026. The three-day programme covers risk identification, street design for pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and public transport users, and measuring the impact of safety interventions, and is aimed at road agency executives, engineers, traffic management and road safety professionals, law enforcement personnel, researchers, and academics. It is led by Tawab Kazemi, Managing Director and Founder of 4E, who brings over 30 years of experience and more than 2,000 Road Safety Audits, alongside Dr. Eng. Wael Alhajyaseen of the Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Centre at Qatar University, who has trained more than 400 senior engineers and safety practitioners since 2016. The course runs from 3rd to 5th November 2026 in Doha, Qatar, with registration open at https://pci.jotform.com/form/262004364096352.
