Safe Urban Street Design for Vulnerable Road User Safety

4E Road Safety and Transport Consultants, commissioned by IRF International Road Federation (Switzerland), delivered a training course on safe urban street design for vulnerable road user safety in Doha, Qatar, led by Tawab Kazemi. Designed for road authorities, traffic and safety professionals, law enforcement personnel, and academic researchers, the course addressed the causes of fatal and serious injury crashes involving pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and public transport users. Drawing on 4E’s extensive road safety consultancy experience and informed by regional context alongside international best practice, the course covered engineering, education, and enforcement measures to improve vulnerable road user safety, structured to remain relevant across the audience’s varied professional backgrounds. The training gave participants a clear understanding of the factors behind these crashes and a complete picture of how to make urban streets safer, with its repeat delivery reflecting the ongoing relevance of the subject matter and demonstrating 4E’s capability in road safety training and capacity building at the international level.
